Once the affected areas are accessible, SageWater crews will complete the engineered repair based on the design of your home. This will involve installing new anchors made from stainless steel, as specified by the engineer. Although it is unlikely that concrete will be damaged in the repair process, crews will repair any concrete damage caused by the repairs, as required. Most&nbsp;importantly, we guarantee the home&nbsp;will be livable&nbsp;at the end of each day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The entire construction and repair process should take about 5-6&nbsp;days, subject to various factors including&nbsp;your home model&nbsp;and garage configuration as well as weather.&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/takushi-drhortonclassaction.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Detailed information on the settlement case, including court documents can be found&nbsp;here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Construction and Repair Procedure:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SageWater will remove the siding (for exterior access) or drywall (for interior access) as needed to access the current hurricane straps and, where installed, metal sill tracks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once the affected areas are accessible, SageWater crews will complete the repair based on the structural engineer\u2019s requirements for your home, which are slightly different from home to home based on model type. This will involve removing existing rusted strap hold-downs, repairing concrete damage, installing new, corrosion-resistant hold-downs, and, for homes with metal sill tracks, installing new, corrosion-resistant metal hardware to replace metal sill track capacity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, our team will complete cosmetic repairs including siding, drywall, and paint to return your home back to its original finished condition, per the settlement protocols.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finally, waterproofing treatment will be applied to the exterior concrete faces of all home foundations following installation of the new structural components.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the repairs are complete, the SageWater Project Manager will meet with the homeowner to perform a site inspection and note anything required to complete the project. At this point the homeowner or designee must sign a substantial statement of completion form including a punch list. The walk-through serves to educate and inform homeowners of the repair process \u2014 including designated work traffic areas where SageWater will need access, as well as the timeline for starting and completing the repairs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preparing Your Home<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The saying \u201ca little preparation goes a long way\u201d most certainly applies to home renovations.&nbsp; If you have ever had home improvements performed in the past, you know that being ready the day the contractor arrives makes the job run much more smoothly.&nbsp; As such, we have put together the following short list of items we need your help with before we arrive.&nbsp; We can guarantee if you prepare your home accordingly, your hurricane strap, concrete, and, where installed, metal sill track repairs will run more smoothly for you and your family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Access To Your Property:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>Our teams show up at 8 am and work until 5 pm.&nbsp; We ask that you provide our office with information about how to enter your backyard prior to the first day of the project so we can hit the ground running on the day we are to begin your home.&nbsp; Once on-site, our teams will communicate with you as to the remaining schedule for the project.&nbsp; Please note that the work on your home must be coordinated with work on other homes. This settlement includes structural strap, concrete, and, for homes with metal framing at the foundation level, sill track reinforcement repairs for certain homes constructed by D.R. Horton that are covered under the class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Court appointed SageWater to serve as the contractor to make the Court-approved repairs of 541 qualifying homes across the islands of Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii at no cost to those affected owners. If you own a D.R. Horton constructed home that qualifies for the Repair Program, you are automatically entitled to the repairs under this settlement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This class action settlement resulted from alleged defects in the hurricane straps and metal sill tracks installed during construction of your home. The class action claimed that the straps and metal sill tracks installed in certain D.R. Horton homes in Hawaii may not be effective in the event of a significant wind event or hurricane. Members of the settlement class are entitled to, among other benefits, have SageWater install a new anchor bolt system, perform concrete repair work, and for qualifying homes with metal sill tracks, metal sill track repairs at no cost to the qualifying homeowners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The claims about the hurricane straps and, where installed, metal sill tracks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hurricane straps and, where installed, metal sill tracks are metal components intended to secure homes to their concrete foundations. The class action claimed that the straps and, where installed, metal sill tracks used in the construction of the qualifying D.R. Horton homes were and are rusting, which may weaken their ability to perform as intended, and can also lead to concrete spalling or cracking, further reducing their effectiveness to protect your home in the event of a significant wind event or hurricane.
